Gryffindor Quiddich Hat

Purl One, Single Crochet next 2 sts

Fall 2007 is here. Once more the days are equal for a bit and with fall comes the nice cooler weather. I have been quiet on the blog front, but very busy. It is amazing how two crafts like Crochet And Knitting are very crucial to each other and complementary in my opinion. I have been using crochet to do edge on my felted Needle Case, and on my Quiddich Gryffindor hat. At this moment the Quiddich Hat is being blocked.
*
The Felted Needle Case, which I will have pictures to show you tomorrow, what I have done and how I have finished it up. I am very pleased at the finished product. I am going to apologize for the asterisks between paragraphs, you have seen them before and maybe wonder what is that. Simply put blogger does not want to cooperate with my paragraph alignment and they are meant as marking the beginning of a new paragraph.
*
I am also working on some You Tube Tunisian Crochet Videos. I have been ordering some new clothes to mix with my newest creations. There will be a fall Hat line this year, that will include some some Crochet Hats and maybe some cable Knitted hats. I am still working on my Irish Hiking Scarf and I want to make one in an electric blue shade. I will be knitting more Dishcloths and will be making some more Harry Potter Scarves, at least two more Knitted. I am almost ready to make my reappearance into the world of the living lol! Thanks for stopping by.

I am sharing with you a demostration of color stranding with the aid of a yarn guide. I am also modeling two of my latest hats. This goes for the requests from some people to model the hats. When you use one of the Clover Yarn Guides you avoid twisting the yarns as you do your Color Stranding. I hope you enjoy the Video and that you like the hats. Thanks for stopping By!

Order of the Phoenix Society of the Impala Hat

This is my latest crochet Hat inspired by Harry Potter Mania. It is a pattern that got all the markings of the Phoenix as it was nearly destroyed , and it was reborn. It has a herd of running Impalas at the bottom. It is a Secret Society within a Secret Society, lol! At the top it has a (3 Actually) humanoid figure walking under the Sun or the Moon, take your pick. It is made in Lamb's Pride wool, it has been washed with Eucalan Soap and blocked and ready for your wearing needs. I have about three more hats on the Harry Potter Queue as far as my mind knows. They have been inspired by watching and or listening to the Movies and or Cds of Harry Potter. There will be more to come in the next few weeks. I have plenty of Imagination in the upper Ionosphere lol!

This hat is perfect for taking a stroll through the magic Forrest or going shopping to Diagon Alley. Only the other members of the Society will be able to see the secret markings of the Hat!

Quidditch Gryffindor Hat

So here I am , it is a lazy Sunday , have been listening to some of the Harry Potter Deathly Hallows Cd, don't worry I won't spoil your reading adventure. I am done with the first CD. The hat that I am working on in the video is a Gryffindor Style Hat great for watching the Qidditch game. The hat is made with Aurora 8 Karabella Merino wool Yarn and it is using the Tychus Hat Pattern, from Brooke Higgins at http://Knitty.com. The pattern is HERE . One thing is for sure, this is a very quickly knit hat. It calls for two strands of yarn, I am using one strand only and will be finishing it with a ribbing. Brooke T. Higgins is my heroine as I was searching the net for a vertical stripes hat and I found the greatest there is. I have made this hat before you can see my other samples here. Quidditch is a fictional sport developed by J. K. Rowling, found in the internationally bestselling Harry Potter novels and films. It is described as an extremely rough but very popular semi-contact sport played by wizards and witches around the world. Matches are played between two teams of seven players riding flying broomsticks, using four balls and six elevated ring-shaped goals. The game features in every Harry Potter book bar the seventh, as the series' title character, Harry Potter, plays an important position for his house team at Hogwarts. Regional and international competitions are also mentioned in the books. In the Harry Potter universe, Quidditch holds a fervent following similar to football (soccer) as a globally popular sport.

This Pillow has the Sham I got today at Pottery Barn for $8.99 from a regular price of $45.00, it is just the cover for a 26 by 26 pillow, in Linen and the price was a steal , I got three. as I needed to get my pillows dressed up. Well thank you for stopping by!

A Hat, Harry Potter Deathly Hallows, Felting

I just got this Book on CD, I think it will be a very nice read as I make more of my Potter Inspired Hats. Talking about Harry Potter Inspired Hats, I am working on The Order of the Phoenix Hat. It is taking a very interesting shape. I am looking forward to making 5 or six more hats inspired by Harry Potter and his adventures.

It has been a long day, yet I am still with energy to write and have a nice afternoon finishing the Order of the Phoenix Hat. The next One will be a Gryffindor and another Hufflepuff. Yep I like hats, if you don't have hair you might as well have lots of hats to cover your head and protect it. lol!

I am also sharing with you my felting tools , I am going to be doing more felting this weekend and will definitely be doing felting for Christmas Gifts. I will be touching up a case that I am working on, it already felted somewhat, but not completely. I got the coarse needles to see if that works better. I will have pictures later this weekend, but it does not seem like it will be possible today. Thanks for stopping by and here is a pick at my hat in the works!

Felting a Case for Hogwarts Precious Items

I wish the yarn look this nice as in the picture, but it is more like a beige. I got this yarn from an exchange and I wanted to make something nice with it. SO I am making the felted Knitting needles case for my Precious Harry Potter Stuff . I am a fan of Harry Potter and I guess is the fact that I like that kind of schooling, of having halls and chambers, and mysterious places. It reminds me somewhat of my schooling where they were very strict rules and uniforms were checked on a daily basis. Your socks were checked to see if they were the right color, the hem of the girls' skirts should touch the floor, when crouching, squatting down. Lovely days from school lol!

Going back to the yarn It is Skye Tweed, It is in the motions of being felted and it does not felt like Lamb's Pride. Lamb's Pride felts very wonderfully I tell you is makes such a difference when you use a nice yarn that felts for a felting project right! lol! It came from a smoker's house, and please don''t get me wrong, I am grateful for the yarn, it is just that I think the nicotine alters the way the yarn responds to things and it took about a month of being outside to get the smell of cigarettes out. Tio think that I used to smoke and now I don't like the smell of it in things.

Lamb's Pride , there is a yarn that felts wonderfully. I am making this one a bit different than the pattern that I got from Berroco. You can find the pattern here Berroco Felted Kable Case. It is a very nice pattern, you need to be a member to have access to the pattern.

Sorting Hats and Golden Snitches, Markers, Needles

So here are the Needles and Stitch Markers that I was talking about in my video Long Tail Cast On Video and this is the Etsy Store I was talking about www.traysclay.etsy.com .

I was impressed with her expertise and artistic spirit. She loves a challenge. I asked her if she could make a sorting hat and a golden snitch and she delivered. I am very impressed, I have to say again and again. Thanks for stopping by!

Long Tail Cast On, My version

If the project asks for a long tail cast on this is what you do. The drawback is not having enough yarn tail to finish your casting on stitches , then frogging and recasting. It can be very frustrating. Experience will teach you how to guesstimate, is better to have more tail and not need it than to recast the whole thing over.

Personally I do not know of an advantage of this cast on over another kind of cast on, I am not a teacher, just a self taught knitter. I am just amazed at the different kinds of casting on methods that are out there. Here is my humble attempt at showing you how to do a Long Tail Cast on. Thanks to Calvin for his wonderful Idea, I will be testing his method and will be posting a Foot Note to this Casting on. Thanks for stopping by!

Quilted Case for Hooks or Needles

The Quilted Star Case for Knitting Needles is done. I am very proud of myself as it came out beyond my fondest dreams. Very exquisite combination of colors. I showed you yesterday that I have made the star, but it needs more than the star. I added some material on the top as you Can see and some edging at the bottom. This is the back as you know. If you think it looks pretty in pictures, the photographs make no justice to how pretty it is. The material is very nice, nothing like good quality cotton.

This is the front with some of the needles that will go in here. It has a lot of compartments. I made this in different colors and different size compartments as you can see. The top two compartments have filling, the rest does not. I just wanted to see what it felt like and how easy or hard it was to sew these layers. It was tricky, but easy as pie.

This second picture shows you the folding top. I decided to put the stitch markers at the top instead. I think they will be better protected. One of the Alpacas Stitch Markers is kind of falling apart.

Well here it is all folded up and taking care of your precious needles, hooks, scissors et all. This will definitely be a great gift. I did not use any pattern, I created my own pattern. It is about 16.5 inches width and about 24 length, a very nice and respectable size.

Well now I think I will be taking a little break for a bit and the next time you see me quilting stuff, I believe I will be quilting Placemats and maybe make a cushion. It pays to know your sewing machine for you and I have gotten to know mine a lot more this weekend. Thanks for stopping by!

A Star Is Born WIP

Here it is my first Attempt at quilting something. I will have to say that it was easier than what I thought. Sometimes I get confused with the sewing machine as it has its ways. I am also learning how to make Videos, this one has some transitions and it is Window Media Video instead of Quictiime, which by the way I bought as my camera makes Quicktime mini movies.

Here is what I am actually making. I used some of the fabric from my exchange with Minky at Crochet Depot , because I wanted to use something new and something old.

The stitches that I have used for the quilting are very pretty. I am very proud of myself for being able to make something like this. It is a work in Progress for now. I am going to try to make something simple this time, but maybe I will dedicate the next few days at doing some more quilting projects. Thanks for stopping by!

Crocus Pocus A discloth in Focus

Crocus Buds has been an interesting project, challenging at times, but once you relax your knitting things go quietly. You are watching the washcloth being blocked. The pattern was a bit challenging, but nicely done. I needs a cautionary note to the knitter that is in a hurry. Remember how many stitches you started with ? 42 stitches to start and to end. The instructions tells you to keep on repeating the pattern until you reach the size that you want. What it does not tell you is that do not end the pattern after your YO (Yarn Overs) because you will have 65 stitches to deal with and the end product will not be what you want. It happened to me, so I had to frog a bit until I had the first set of 42 stitches with is Row #9. My bad their Bad lol!

This photo shows you in great detail the stitch. This is made in Bellezza Collections Smania which is a yarn that is 65% Cotton and 35% Nylon. I think it will be nice for a dishcloth, or even to dry dishes as far as materials go. I have enough to make a crochet scrubby. I will be starting another dishcloth soon.

My works in progress, crochet and knit keep progressing. I may do some quilting today or tomorrow, let's see how it goes. Thanks for stopping by and have a great Holiday Weekend.
