Niddy Noddy from A wine Rack

So we started with an idea of getting a home made niddy noddy that did not cost me an arm and a leg, but small change. I went to the thrift store and found what I wanted to turn into a niddy noddy. Better than that no shipping and instant gratification lol! I had to drill two holes, that's about it and screw two new screws in.
I took it apart and decided how best to assemble this apparatus into a niddy noddy and that is what you see here. There are some metal washers I had laying around and that will make it more techie lol!

It is now waiting to be sanded again and painted some nice strange colors, have not decided yet.

Recycle me New

In this kind of economy we need to be able to recognize the need to recycle yarn. This hat was the Head Hugger hat. I was not very pleased with the hat, but I really like the yarn, so what to do? I just took apart the hat and recycled the yarn. I am doing that with some other hats as well.

What you see me using here is my new double point needles. I will tell you that it is a great joy to work with this needles on small projects as hats and mittens. There is a point when you will benefit from a circular needle, but so far I have been happy making the hats this way.

This is the "Armando Hat" you can find it in Ravelry, it is a masculine lace hat. It is an easy repeat and works fantastic with the malabrigo yarn that is suggested to be work with. I actually use number 9 US needles with this hat. This is the last view of the front of the hat. This is a great example of a Lace pattern that can be masculine and yet has the touch of a lace project. If you have not tried lace this will be a great beginners project.
To a great weekend of recycling yarn for new projects lol! Thanks for stopping by!

Recycled Sari Yarns

I received my shipment from the Gamma Quadrant of Sari Silk Yarn . I had to share this with you as it is one of the most beautiful yarns that I have ever bought. Recycled Sari Yarns are undoubtedly the most unique yarns you will ever encounter. Silk thrums from India's weaving mills are handspun by women's cooperatives and cottage industries into gleaming silk skeins. Using their traditional skills they are able to create vibrant, textured yarn in a endless array of colorways. Each Recycled Silk skein is handspun creating natural inconsistencies and a rather scrappy nature; to make any project, no matter how simple in design, instantly charming and unique. I got this yarn from these two stores http://stores.ebay.com/Knitters-Knot-Yarn-Shop and this Seller not a Store http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZcraftqn6. Remember they are auctions and the Rules of Acquisition number 3 says :" Never pay more for an acquisition than you have to!"

When you purchase this yarn you are supporting women's development groups in Nepal who produce unique hand knitted products, knitting, crocheting, and weaving in their spare time in their own homes. This work provides additional income to support their families and improve their lives.

No two skeins of yarn are the same. Each one of product you knit will be one of kind. It is better to alternate skeins for variegated look. Suggest needle size 7-13 US or 4mm to 9 mm. Best to knit with kid mohair to create soft feel It looks great if you knit or crochet with it every other row with a complementary yarn.. Cold water wash, lay flat dry, first time wash with vinegar. Recycling Plastic Bags?

This is a link that I share in my group. This lady which I met by another link in aa group has so many ideas of what to do with Plastic bags and other materials. If you want to make a Tote bag to carry your groceries what better than a bag made out of recycled shopping bags!
This is one of the examples of a Tote made with recycled bags. Below is another example of another eco-tote bag. Think of the possibilities! This lady also teaches you how to make the yarn that you need to make this items here are some tips and instructions that you will be able to appreciate --> http://www.myrecycledbags.com/category/tips-and-instructions/

Here is the link http://www.myrecycledbags.com/my-pattern-links/ , I will say this, I am more than ever committed to reduce my oil (petroleum) . Petroleum (Latin Petroleum derived from Greek πέτρα (Latin petra) - rock + ἔλαιον (Latin oleum) - oil) or crude oil is a naturally occurring liquid found in formations in the Earth consisting of a complex mixture of hydrocarbons (mostly alkanes) of various lengths. The approximate length range is C5H12 to C18H38. Any shorter hydrocarbons are considered natural gas or natural gas liquids, while long-chain hydrocarbons are more viscous, and the longest chains are paraffin wax. In its naturally occurring form, it may contain other nonmetallic elements such as sulfur, oxygen, and nitrogen.[1] It is usually black or dark brown (although it may be yellowish or even greenish) but varies greatly in appearance, depending on its composition. Crude oil may also be found in semi-solid form mixed with sand, as in the Athabasca oil sands in Canada, where it may be referred to as crude bitumen.

Somehow we need to keep down our petroleum. Why is there a gas price hike when there are so many hybrid cars? If they save gas why aren't we flowing in a surplus of gasoline so that the price fall? Interesting indeed, reminds me of the Ferengi Rule of Acquisition #10 " GREED IS ETERNAL". Thanks for stopping by.

Just yarn!

The secrets of yarn. You know even though people say that you require less yarn to knit something than to crochet, you have to be careful. If you are knitting something with cables, you will probably need more yarn than if you crocheted the item, or if you just knit it in a very simple Knit one row , Purl one row combination.

Here you have the mystery yarn that is no longer a mystery. It is Plymouth YUKON Yarn, Made from 35% mohair, 35% wool, and 30% acrylic, it is not a bad yarn but it sheds like crazy, yet it is so cozy. I have already started the making of the new afghan of my own design. It is inspired in a Quilting design. It will be made in strips or panels, it will be either 3 panels or 4. Why don't you know yet?, You may ask; The answer is very simple my friends. I have not decided wether I am going to make it a Log Cabin design or if I am going to make it a Three or Four vertical Panels design.

When I am done with the first Section, (the first Panel, will be made of 28 Stitches on # 15 needles, about 3 stitches per inch is the gauge), I will then decide how to proceed with the rest of the afghan in the making. Later on I will post pictures of the way I do a knit stitch and a purl stitch.

Recycling an Afghan in 2007

Happy Mother's day to all the mothers that visit my blog.

I know I have not been very active. My mind has been busy creating what my hands have not been doing. This afghan is made in tc crochet and it is made with some kind of very thick yarn that has some mohair in it. The yarn is very soft and has a look of rasta-like yarn . Expensive this project was , I spent about $200.00 in materials alone. There is no way that I am going to throw it away, when I get bored with it.

This afghan was made around March 2004, and now in May 2007 is being frogged and will be remade into a different afghan. I will be making it as a knit afghan. I will like to request the opinion of the guys and gals that stop by. I need your ideas as to pattern suggestions, wether they be knit or crochet.

This afghan is great but I do believe that the material is better for single crochet or for knitting. Talking about knitting is certainly a great ideal as I can make panels. Just knowing that I will need 1/3 less yarn that crocheting guarantees the fact that I will have more than enough yarn for my new project.

It will be something new and somthing old, the mysteries of craftmanship. Thanks for stopping by.

A Purse for Anna Ness

At Crochet Depot, http://groups.msn.com/crochetdepot , we had our Mystery Crochet Along this Month and the Pattern was supplied by our kind friend
Anna Ness from
http://www.lullabiesandlace.com/
The original pattern is a multipurpose Sack . I decided to finish the pattern in a different way than the instructions called for.

You may wonder why? I shall tell you. As I was working the instructions for this sack, I got the idea that it would make a beautiful purse or handbag. So I only did the skirt for 2 rows and I closed the bottom part and added a trim. I also crocheted a string to weave near the top to pull the bag closed if you wanted to. It has an elastic band at the bottom and at the top. I think that this sack is a perfect foundation for a handbag . As a multipurpose sack you canyou can use it to hold your grocery bags, extra yarn, even pajamas. Originally this is a sack that has a skirt long enough to cover the bottom part so that you don't know that it is there. Having an elastic at the top and at the bottom gives you the ability to pull things our of either end without much problems. KUDOS to Anna Ness as I named this creation with her pattern the Anna Ness Purse. Go an visit her site http://www.lullabiesandlace.com/and you will find beautiful baby patterns and grreat vintage dishcloth patterns. Her patterns for dishcloths are so versatile that you can use your imagination and create potholders with them if you use double strands or if you incorporated some wool to your creating for insulation.

Thanks Anna for sharing your wonderful creations with us.
