HiKoo Weaving for the Nook SimpleTouch

DecWeaving2011 (1)
So here is my entertainment today as I am relaxing. I am using some of the HiKoo Simplicity to make a case for my Nook Touch.  I am hoping to test some of my finishing techniques on the hems.

DecWeaving2011 (2)
I made up the pattern inspired by the pattern from the Simple Summer Scarf from Schacht. I am hoping I can finish the weaving today.  I am also hoping to do a nice hem, following Jane Patrick's instructions on her DVD. As they say, anything is possible. Thanks for stopping by!

Nook Touch Review

BSGNook

I am very happy to promote this device, from the Colonies of Men. It is a good technology and you can cut the wireless before the Cylons hack into it.  Seriously, if you are looking for a good E-Reader, the Nook Touch is a basic yet fantastic e-reader. It is not an IPAD, nor it is competition for the IPAD, but it is a great pocket size  E-Reader. I can tell you that given  the latest software update, version 1.1, the e-ink is more crisp and the system is very fast. If you look at some of my previous posts you will see my old Nook ,(1st Edition), which I traded in for an upgraded Tablet, but that is for Xmas.  This Nook has a touch screen, it weighs  a bit less than half a pound, or 8 ounces. It feels like a paperback novel and at night with a bit of light you can read your book under candle light. No email, no ads, you have access to the Barnes and Noble shop,   It is easy to bookmark, search and I am very happy with the device.  I am hoping to make a nice cover so that I can take it with my and know it is protected.  I am hoping to make a pattern in the next few days. I hope this review helps you with the selection of your E-Reader.  I do like paper, but I am more happy with the idea that no paper is ever getting lost, I can archive my books once I am done and they are still available in other devices. I think this is the best compact, pocket size, E-Reader on the market. Thanks for stopping by!

In Every Nook there is a linning

If you thought I was done, you were too quick to judge.  Even though there is a nice case for the nook it is made out of wool and I noticed that it created Static with the silicone skin that it has.  Not to worry I made a nice  liner from some wonderful fabric I had from a Quilting group I used to belong to.  I turned the bag inside out and then went on using the fabric.  I doubled the fabric then I crimped the sides and stitched it in by hand.

Here you see the liner which is only stitched  on the vertical sides, in case I need to put something inside besides the Nook.  This was something I wanted to do and an afterthought, the Nook will be inside the liner and there is space for other stuff.  Hope this helps you in your creation of a case for your E-Reader.  Two creative  postings on a Sunday is really good.

Happy Sunday everyone and here I am on a Lazy Weekend. I wanted to crochet my Nook a Case from my Homespun and here it is. I also added some Velcro for the benefit of closing and opening the bag. I use an H hook 5mm and I used a combination of sc, and hdc all over with a border of mostly sc. I then single crochet the sides together and hand stitched the Velcro closure. The other pictures are showing you the way it works.

Here you have a bit of a Peek of how it fits inside the case.  The pattern is simple and with the homespun it hides well the fact that is uneven.  Don't take me wrong the uneven yarn was on purpose and sometimes we want to take advantage of the uneven  yarn with the stitch for texture and design.

I was able to compare the size as I was making it along, I did not want to make it a lot bigger or shorter, when I was done with the pattern I only had about 3 yards left of this yarn.  I do like the way it looks and how well protected it will be in the home!

Another view of the case and the Nook beside it.

When it is closed it looks a lot like a clutch, but no need to go gender discriminatory here, it is just a Nook and it needs a cover.  There are many ideas that came through my head last night.  I will have a Knit version and will probably recreate the Crochet Version and see about posting it.  Yesterday I saw a guy reading on the street with a Nook and I said to myself, I have one of those.  Thanks for stopping by!

The Battlestar Pegasus Nook

TritonsToy
So what do you know, Crafty Andy got a Nook from Barnes & Noble.  For an E-Book reader is fantastic for the price.  One of the benefits is that you can borrow books from the Library and read them on your Nook. I just got the Wi-Fi, I did not see a need to get a 3G version at this time.   Another benefit is that you can read PDF patterns on it, it needs a bit of work, but it is a very nice device. You can name the device, I named mine Triton, what you see is the wallpaper I selected and the screensaver is all in Galactica Theme pictures, very awesome.  I will say that it is a very nice device, easy to use and easy to connect to your home Wi-Fi or anywhere there is a Wi-Fi.  Go to your coffee shop or your favorite Wi-Fi Spot and hook it up to get new books, otherwise you can have in Airplane mode.   The Airplane mode cuts the wireless off and saves you battery life.  I bought a dark Silicon skin from Skque, is not skin tight, but let me tell you is way cool, I like the way it fits and the way it looks and a great price.  Dark will give you a better contrast with the reading , that's a tip.  At night I use my regular night light and I do spend more time reading than I expected to .  I will be working in making my Patterns to work with the Nook.  Will there be a Kindle in my future?  I don't know yet,  I am testing one tomorrow, but for reading this is a wonderful device that I am hoping to treasure for a long time.  Thanks for stopping by.
