Mc Cormick Dye Sunday

This one below is colored with orange, yellow and blue and the brown is a combo of colors. DOne in the microwave in mason jars.
This yarn that you see here was lavender in color. I used Mc Cormick Neon Blue and some vinegar and with the help of the microwave I was able to get this beautiful blue. I soaked the yarn about 30 minutes before in some warm water with vinegar. Then came my lace weight yarn that I decided to dye in a Neon Green. This yarn was a Heathery Beige kind of color, I would say natural and I used the Neon Green to get this color that you see.

I microwaved this material in mason jars for 3 times of 2 minutes each and allowing 2 minutes of rest between cooking. I am very pleased with the coloring.

Mc Cormick Sunday is what today is. I figure it was a day to lift my spirits up. I have been watching a 9-11 Documentary and I was angry, I was sad, I was happy, then I was angry again. Still when I saw the passengers of Flight 93 I felt Victory and like I was able to do something about it. I would have fought with them to the death as well. I figure what better way to fight extremist today than using yarn. So after some thought on the matter and some white vinegar added I have some yarn in beautiful colors. This yarn was given to me by a Cyber Friend from Ravelry, it is her homespun. Thanks for Stopping by.

Recycle me New

In this kind of economy we need to be able to recognize the need to recycle yarn. This hat was the Head Hugger hat. I was not very pleased with the hat, but I really like the yarn, so what to do? I just took apart the hat and recycled the yarn. I am doing that with some other hats as well.

What you see me using here is my new double point needles. I will tell you that it is a great joy to work with this needles on small projects as hats and mittens. There is a point when you will benefit from a circular needle, but so far I have been happy making the hats this way.

This is the "Armando Hat" you can find it in Ravelry, it is a masculine lace hat. It is an easy repeat and works fantastic with the malabrigo yarn that is suggested to be work with. I actually use number 9 US needles with this hat. This is the last view of the front of the hat. This is a great example of a Lace pattern that can be masculine and yet has the touch of a lace project. If you have not tried lace this will be a great beginners project.
To a great weekend of recycling yarn for new projects lol! Thanks for stopping by!

Pegasus Viper Zig Zag Scarf

Hello my friends and welcome to my blog once more. So far this year I am doing more knit than crochet, but do not think anything of it. The crafts of Crochet and Knitting are in me and they come out as I feel the need to explore something. I believe my most creative times are the start of fall and spring. This scarf is to be the companion of the XOXOXO Hat and Mittens, it is the same skein of yarn. This yarn is Sonoma from Briar Rose Fibers, at 457 yards for the price you get a lot of yarn to make many different projects. More to the point this yarn is very versatile, whether is in no. 2 needles or no. 7 or 2.75 mm or 6.5 mm.
Here is the scarf after it has been blocked, the yarn is wonderful and the pattern fantastic. I gave some more to share as I am recycling some yarn. Yep you get tired of a hat just frogg it and re cast. Thanks for stopping by!

August 09 Wip

In case you are wondering what this crazy mess is. It is a skein of Noro Daria Multi that a friend gave to me. It is great for purses and cozies and caddies. It is a mess of rayon/nylon it unravels no matter what.So I have decided to crochet a caddy for my crochet hook container which is a ginger snap canister. It is looking lovely If I may say that to you.
This is a Brioche Stitch Scarf which I am working on for my Niece. It is a twisted Brioche stitch, because the stitch is twisted. It is different in the way you wrap the yarn over. By the way this yarn over happens to happen is not a yarn over on purpose. This scarf is based on the Berlin Scarf. Then here at the bottom I am making the scarf for my Pegasus mittens and hat , it is the Zig Zag Scarf, very clever design and I have enough to make a scarf. So if you buy a skein of this huge yarn you will have enough for a hat, mittens and a scarf of the same color.
Then here are my toe up socks which I am working on as well. I want to finish them before the Men's Fall Knitting Retreat 2009 which is Sep 3 - Sep 6 , 2009. It will be at Dumas Bay Center Around Seattle Washington, or rather at City of Federal Way in Washington State. Enough for today, I have a root Canal to rest. Thanks for stopping by!

Nothing but the Rain

It is amazing when I consider that I started blogging about 4 years ago. I would have not thought that this was going to be such a fulfilling endeavor. I have to say that expressing my feelings and sharing my life with the world in general has been very satisfying. I am not a politician, nor a saint, just a creative person that loves his life and loves people. Today for whatever reason I remembered a lot of my friends that have gone before me , it was a bit sad, but nice to remember the good times we shared. On the other hand here I am sharing with you my crafts.
Hey Starbuck what do You Hear? Nothing but the rain; Well grab your gun and bring the Cat in. Nothing but the Rain is the name of this hat. It is made in a nylon fiber and it is a bit stretchy, but it has become a beautiful reversible cap.
Above picture is what I call the right side of stockinette and it looks nice. This yarn was a bit catchy on the needles so there are some loose strands that can be brought to order with a little but of fire from a lighter. I just did that very careful I may add.

The view above is the right side as well, but the view below is the wrong side or the purl side, or reverse stockinette. Beautiful on both counts, but don't go away yet, I will have a very interesting crochet project I am working on. Thanks for stopping by.

Priest of Pythia Ceremonial Scarf

I am so happy with the end result of this garterlac scarf. The yarn is by Skacel and the Pattern by one of Skacel's Employees which was kind enough to procure for the MFKR 2008 group this yarn and taught us how to make it.
The scarf is so beautiful I thought I will give it a special name. I saw in Battlestar Galactica a Priestess that would have looked lovely with this scarf on, in my case it will be a Priest lol! This scarf is beautiful and the pictures do not make it justice. It is being blocked at this moment where the wind chimes are. I am so tempted to leave as a hanging piece of art, because it is extremely artsy looking. The designer and the yarn make this scarf stunning to look at.

Here is a bit of a close up of the scarf, but even with the best close up the scarf can not be appreciated as in person. Yet it is here to share with you, this is a project that I was able to complete due to a great group I belong to on Ravelry. The group is Galactica FPB and is for fans of the show.I want to thank you for stopping by and I do crochet so don't be discouraged if your favorite craft is crochet, I just take turns and give myself permission to be naughty with either one of the crafts. Thanks for stopping by!

Pegasus XOXOXO Set Done

Last night as I was watching some TV I was able to finish my gloves. I have had to redo some fingers because I was not happy with the gussets, but now I am extremely pleased with them. This pattern was modified from the Briar Rose Fibers XOXO Mittens Hat . You can see the main deviation is that these are gloves without tips and not mittens. This project was made on US 2 DPNs 2.75 mm, but the cuffs and the hat were made on US 7.
This winter I will have very toasty hands and I believe I may have enough yarn for a simple scarf, I will have to think about it ,but I have 90 something grams of the yarn left, which means I can make another hat!

In the end I wanted to make this pattern for a long time, but like I did it with gloves. I present you the Pegasus XOXOXO Gloves and Hat Combo. I have crocheted gloves and now I have knitted gloves, So Say We All. Thanks for stopping by.

Pegasus XOXOXO Right Glove FO

I wanted to show you the Right Hand Glove, even though it is based on the XOXO Mittens and Hat from Briar Rose Fibers, You can see that besides the Band, the rest is different and of course they have fingers instead of a mitten. The gussets are perfect, I am very proud of myself, because I used the knowledge I have from socks to make this happen.
Today I have my second glove mounted and I am ready to make the Left Hand Gusset. This is a very cool project and it has a different name by all means, but we shall see about it next week. I do have some more knit projects, my crochet projects are done for the moment, there may be some more in the near future. Thanks for stopping by!

XOXOXO Middle & Index Fingers

Can you believe it? I have a thumb gusset and it was very simple to make. I figure once I made socks I would be able to make gloves. What I did not expect was to fall in love with Double Pointed Needles. I started this whole project on size 7 dpns and for the gloves and fingers I decided to work with size 2 dpns, it made sense, it made it easy.
I am now at the threshold of the Annular and pinky finger and then to the next glove which will be easier. One of the things I noticed is that as in socks there are gaps that you can circumvent by picking up and extra stitch that will disappear in a k2 tog or a p2 tog later on.

There is more to come, and I do have some crochet projects, but right now I don't have any crochet projects, but I am in need to finish with all the knit projects at hand. Thanks for stopping by.

XOXOXO Gloves WIP

I am embarking on the gloves / mittens. The pattern calls for mittens , but I am going to work on making gloves instead. I don't know if they will have tips or will be fingerless, but I can tell you that I am very excited, this is my first pair of Knitted Gloves.
In the end I am saluting my Vulcan Friends, may We Live Long and Prosper. This will be a magnificent project and the start of a fun area of my craft.

XOXOXO Hat Finished

By no means is the XOXOXO combo finished , but the hat was finalized late last night. I am very happy with myself and the work I have been doing on Double Point Needles aka DPNs. There is a pair of mittens for this hat, but I am afraid that I am going to have to play with the pattern, because I may not want to have mittens, but rather fingerless mittens. This yarn is wonderful to work with and I may even make a second hat. Thanks for stopping by!

Life is Hugs and Kisses

Thank the Gods for medications and for entertainment as we travel through life. Today I just got a surprise , but I will not bother with that at the moment, is rather insignificant. WHat really matters is the progress I have made in this beautiful headband from Brair Rose Fibers. I have wanted to make this for a very long time and here I am making it.
Today I was able to do a good grafting, not perfect, pick up the stitches and and knit some. Just wanted to share what I have been up to. Thanks for stropping by!

Final Five Eye of Jupiter Hat

This is my First Truly reversible hat of my own creation. It is a Crochet Crown with lots of Front Post Stitches among regular single crochet stitches. It is done with The Eye Of Jupiter Colorway that I created and has a very ethereal look in my opinion. Is like the Blast of the Nova. There are sets of Five Front Double Crochet in sets of Two and Three.

I wanted to make this hat completely reversible and since I have no problems wearing a hat with a Tiny star on my head, I just crochet a Star , five pointed by the way which represents the final five cylons. I guess is all about creativity and how you adjust it to the pattern. Each point in the star has 5 yellow stitches.

This hat is a very quick knit, it has the same stitches as The Botanic Hat, but it is done from the Crown down instead of from the bottom up. It was not hard to do, but I had to add 16 stitches to the pattern so that it would fit me well. Each Color section has five repetitions of slip stitches. I wanted to use this Botanic Hat Pattern idea, because I found that it was very quick to knit and would give me what I wanted, if I watch what I was doing lol!
This is another view of the right side or the wrong side, but since it is reversible who cares right? The wrong side has no meaning on these hats. You can make a hat like this in less than two days if you have the time of course.
So here you have the little star on the back of the hat which is adorable in my opinion and calls to the little kid in me. It looks like a Starfish . Well now that I have found my new joy in double pointed needles I am ready to tackle my next project. My next project is the XOXOXO Hat and mittens. Thanks for stopping by!

August 09 Projects and More

Welcome to the month of August 09. This month brings exciting projects for me. Some are WIP and some are being reinvented as the hat below. I am re making the hat in a different way, or rather taking the hat from this point on and doing something very different.
I may just undo the hat and redo it , we shall see, I may use one end of the skein and combine it with the other and thus creating a Color Stranded project which will be remarkable.

I have had this yarn since November last year and I have been wanting to make these mittens and Hat ever since. I got the urge to purchase the pattern the other day and here it is for this month.

Here is one project that has been lingering since last November as well, so I am picking it up and finishing this project this month.

I am also making a cozy for my cell phone, a gratifying quick project with a double strand of Lionbrand Chenille.

Thanks for stopping by.
