Ravenclaw Philosophy Hat

So very little is promoted to make hats for men in Tapestry Crochet or any kind of crochet for that matter. I mean hats that are a competition to the knit hats I see. Believe me is very hard to write a pattern this way and I believe people will become bored with the so many instructions that have to be given to create this kind of Hat! I can tell you that making a hat is very easy, here are the basic things you need to keep in mind:

1. Know your stitches.

I mean know what is a dc and what you can do with it, FPdc, BPdc

2. Have an open mind and listen to your inner Artist - designer.

3. Be patient and remember frog is not a 4 letter word.

Sometimes you don't like how it looks and you are commanded to frog the hat to row #9 then do it. You will be happy and that is what counts.

4. Be playful and experiment playing with stitches, keep it simple, use solid color yarns or subtle color variations, definitely have a contrasting yarn.

Talking about yarn, Tapestry Crochet is not a place for fun fur or novelty yarns unless you are doing and edge or an accessory to the hat.

Well here is a Harry Potter Inspired hat, I am hoping I will have it done by Tomorrow or even tonight to close the month of October 2008. Thanks for stopping by!

I love looking at your work even though I'm not much of a knitter. I do have to disa gree on one little point in what you said though.

"I believe people will become bored with the so many instructions that have to be given to create this kind of Hat!"

I can't agree with that part. I think the color changes and different stitches are what would make it so interesting to try. I do like some simple patterns but sometimes I also like something I can think on and be creative with. 100 rows of back and forth single crochets in the same color can get a little boring sometimes if you know what I mean.

I started to look at you hats on Cville and since then I check your blog sometimes. I'm sort of getting ideas on what might work for a crochet version as well and just admiring the beauty of your patterns. I don't know if I'll get around to actually working on one. Maybe after holiday gift work. If I do I'll write it down for sure. I think anything you can do in one can be done in the other. You just have to find a way and like you said be creative and committed to your vision of how you want it to turn out.

Charting will be an option, lol. I am working on a Tapestry Crochet Hat pattern, it will be coming alive in November once more!
